Writing Challenge 5: Who Inspires Me?

I wanted to be very specific about who inspires me. As an aspiring author, I’m going to write about an author that is so amazing to me. As many folks know, I started writing a young adult novel back in November 2014 for National Novel Writing Month. I have yet to get back into it, but I made a good start (I have about 22,000 words!) which makes me super proud. I never thought I could ever write that much, even though I’ve been very passionate about becoming an author my whole life! Anyway, given the type of book I want to write, my inspiration is J.K. Rowling.

I’m sure you all know she is the author of the Harry Potter series, which to me, is beyond amazing. I didn’t know anything about HP until the movies started coming out. At first, I didn’t jump to see them. If I remember correctly, I didn’t even know the first movie had come out until after I saw a trailer for the second movie. Then, I’m pretty sure I didn’t seek to watch the series until I saw the trailer for the third movie (Prisoner of Azkaban is my fav, by the way). Once I saw the trailer for the third movie, I had to see them. And I was hooked. I didn’t read the books until after I finished all of the movies. Fun fact: I’ve only seen the last two movies (the 7th book) in the theaters. The rest I saw on TV.

When I finally got into the books, I understood immediately why people, young and old, enjoyed them so much. If you’re into fantasy type books, HP is a must read. I am forever amazed by the world that J.K. created. I just love when you read a book and can easily imagine the scene they’re setting. Her writing style is tremendous in that respect and that’s why I’m so inspired by her.

I’m also inspired by her story. She was down on her luck while raising a child alone. She was struggling financially and trying to make ends meet. She had always had a story in her head about a young wizard that attends a wizarding school and decided to write it down during a long train ride. She completed the book and shopped it around to over a dozen publishers before one finally loved it enough to publish it. The rest is history.

That story inspires me to keep pushing until I get to where I want to be. I hope one day I can have even a fraction of her success as a writer/author. The success would be amazing, but to develop my talent to her level is my ultimate goal. Again, the world she created for HP was just incredible. Whenever I think about it, I can’t help but to want to be in that world, as well as attempt to create one of that magnitude.

I’m going to be working a lot on my business this month. My goal is to get it up and running by the end of Feb. Like, for real, for real. This year, we have goals and one is getting my business on and popping! I know you all are dyyyying to know more! (Or not. Ha!) But I will give more deets as it gets closer to being a real, live thing. It is going to be SO amazing! I can’t wait to share!!

Ok, more writing challenges to come, but not as consistently as I thought! But thanks for reading whenever I do post! 🙂
